APPLIANCE REGISTRATION

Why Should I Register My KitchenAid Appliance

There are many benefits to registering your appliances:

  • It will help us provide more efficient warranty service if there is a problem with your product.
  • Your registration can serve as proof of purchase for insurance loss claims.
  • It will allow us to contact you, in the unlikely event a safety notification is required.

You can register your appliance online by visiting our Product Registration site, or by calling us at 1-800-422-1230.

Adaptors and Transformers

Appliances and electronics designed for the United States have limited or no use in many other countries due to differences in voltage.

  • Though this can be corrected by using an adapter or transformers,  KitchenAid ® does not recommend this, due to the potential dangers that differences in cycles/second can create.
  • In the US, electricity is delivered at 60 Hertz (Hz) and in most other countries electricity is delivered at 50 Hz.
  • Running 60 Hz appliances in a 50 Hz environment forces the motor in your appliance to run slower and can potentially cause immediate motor or operational failure.
  • Using transformers and adapters can cause electrical shortages and/or even fires.
  • Taking a KitchenAid® small appliance out of the country voids the warranty.

Generator Usage with KitchenAid Appliances

To determine if the customer's appliance will run properly on a generator the customer will need to do the following:

  • Refer to the generator's manufacture Owner's Manual
  • Refer to their appliance Owner's Manual

Guide for Purchasing a Generator

The consumer will need to do the following:

  • Identify the tools and appliances they intend to operate on the generator
  • Determine the required wattage for each.  The best place to look for this information is the model/serial tag, which will list apms, volts, wattage or a combination of the three.
  • Total the required wattage of items that will run simultaneously

Choose a generator that will meet or exceed their total wattage requirements.  The total should not be greater than the generator’s wattage capacity

NOTE: Some timers on cooking appliances may not count down correctly.  Computer boards operate at a consistent 60-hertz sine wave pattern, but some generators may not have good speed control and run at less than 60 Hz.  The operation of cooking equipment should not be impacted other than inaccuracies in the timing.

Additional considerations when purchasing

So how do we, as a representative of a major appliance manufacturer, respond to the consumer’s request for information when they are buying generators?  What does the consumer need to know when purchasing a generator for their home?  What are the requirements for major appliances when operating on generators?

The first thing generator manufacturers will tell potential buyers to consider is their needs when sizing a generator.  Consumers can determine which generator is right by determining the amount of wattage required to operate necessary appliances.  The most important consideration is proper sizing.  Overloading a generator can result in damage to the generator and to the connected electrical devices.

When sizing a generator, the motor start (refrigerators, air conditioners, etc..) is an important consideration.   Depending on the efficiency of the motor, it may require two to three times the running amps to start or up to seven times for air compressors and pumps.  On refrigeration, for example, we recommend doubling the running wattage for motor start-up consideration.  This surge of power lasts only for a few seconds but must be considered when purchasing a generator.  Consumers should first figure the watts needed to start the largest motor and then add the running watts of all other connected appliances.

Items such as light bulbs, toasters, and stereo systems are resistive loads and do not power a motor.  When calculating wattage use on these items, simply add the figures together (example:  3 light bulbs at 75 watts each would require 225 watts).

Items with some type of motor would be considered reactive loads.  Examples would be furnace motors, water pumps, and refrigerators.

How to Clean Traditional Stainless Steel

To clean and care for your stainless steel surfaces, follow these suggestions:

IMPORTANT: To avoid damage to the finish, do not use soap-filled scouring pads, abrasive or harsh cleaners, any cleaning product containing chlorine bleach, steel-wool pads, gritty wash cloths or certain paper towels.

To Clean and Care:

  • Spray affresh® Stainless Steel cleaner on a clean microfiber cloth.
  • Wipe the stainless steel in the direction of the grain.

To Restore Luster:

  • Use the affresh® Stainless steel wipes; follow the recommendations and directions on the label.
  • Wipe off any excess and use special care to avoid contact with any plastic parts, trim pieces, or rubber door gaskets. If the polish does contact any of these plastic parts, clean them with a nonabrasive sponge and mild detergent in warm water.
  • Thoroughly dry the area with a soft cloth.

If affresh™ Stainless Steel cleaner is not available:

  • Wash surfaces with warm, soapy water using liquid detergent and a nonabrasive sponge. Always rub evenly in the direction of the grain.
  • Rinse with clean water and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Use a clean, dry towel to polish the surface in the direction of the grain until it shines.
  • Water that is not completely dried off can cause discoloration - Water may contain iron that will initiate this discoloration

If you would like to purchase one of these accessories, you may visit your local retailer or Order Accessories online.

How to Purchase KitchenAid Replacement Refrigerator Water Filters

When should I replace my water filter?

It is recommended that the water filter be replaced every 6 months, when the indicator light comes on, or based on your refrigerator's performance.  A clogged or incorrectly installed water filter will reduce the water flow to the ice maker and/or dispenser. This could result in small ice cubes, low or no ice production and/or longer dispensing times.

What is the proposition 65 warning I see in the Owner's Manual?

The warning in your Owner's Manual is printed in order for Whirlpool Corporation to comply with California State law and is based on the list of chemicals identified by the Governor of the State of California as provided in Proposition 65 regulations.

California Proposition 65 is known as The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986. To comply with this California Act, even chemicals used within the limits of national regulations and found not hazardous in the quantities associated with the product may require a warning just because the chemical is present. Information about Proposition 65 and this warning is available on the website of the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) maintained by the State of California. https://oehha.ca.gov/proposition-65/

Whirlpool evaluates all chemicals associated with the products that Whirlpool manufactures and complies with all regulations associated with the chemicals. All potential chemical exposures are below accepted and regulated concentrations. Whirlpool has provided the warning because a chemical covered by the California Proposition 65 may be present and not all listed chemicals provide exposure limit requirements. Therefore, Whirlpool has elected to provide the warning when a listed chemical is present.
